Color me disappointed

Deadwood South Dakota is a neat town. There is a lot to do, particularly in connecting us to our past. Richard took me into a storefront today called ancestrydoodle.com. While he doesn’t believe much in this kind of thing, I feel cosmically  connected to my past. I am embarrassed to say I found out today my name Duchess is not connected to royalty. Apparently my ancestor doodle in 1880 hung around a brothel in Deadwood. Not only was her working name Duchess, but her father, my great great great great great great grandfather m, was a notorious chicken thief in the Badlands. They even had a picture of him.

I still haven’t digested all of this information and I’m not sure whether I can show my face back in Williamsburg again.

How embarrassing

Duchess

Duchess, really, we feel for you. This Indiana Richard, out West cowboy thing is going to his head so just appease him, turn your back and pretend you never met him! Next thing you know, he will have you riding a horse!

  2. Oh Duchess,
Although this is disappointing news re your 6g grandfather and your namesake, you have to admit the Wanted Poster (strike out the Dead part) is charming!
    Always a fan, Lily

P.S. I believe I now have my mother trained as well as you’ve trained Richard regarding how many trips a day one should go outside!!! My doggie sitter taught me that new trick:)

  3. Not to worry, Duchess. We in Williamsburg are a very forgiving lot. You will be welcomed with open arms……and treats in their hands……upon your return. Who knows. Kevin Brown may be descended from John Brown. The point is, we love you for who YOU are, not who your ancestors were. Though you may want to look into possible connections with several duchesses frequently in the British tabloids lately. Hmmmmmm????

  4. Duchess,
Sounds like you got Richard under control. You will enjoy Yellowstone but be very careful around the wild game. Keep Ricard in the car and no walking outside at night. Yellowstone introduced wolves a few years ago.
We will see you in Lander on Sunday or late Saturday night. We could meet for a Wyoming whiskey shot at the local salon.

    Safe travels,

    Gray Fox

Love keeping up with the “tails” of Duchess & “Clyde”! Remember to keep your hand on your grip and your back toward the corner while carousing in the honky tonk saloons in search of your roots!

  6. Well at least they led exciting lives! Williamsburg will welcome you back no matter what!
